The Nigeria Air Force through humanitarian relief operations has provided free medical services to over four hundred thousand (400,000) people across the country including those who were internally displaced in the Northeast.

Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadeeq Baba Abubakar disclosed this at a press conference organized by the Federal Medical Centre Yola to showcase another success recorded in separating conjoined twins.

Abubakar who was represented by Air Commodore Gideon Bako at the occasion said NAF has conducted numerous humanitarian relief operations across the country to include medical outreaches to alleviate the sufferings of victims of insurgency and banditry as well as those affected by natural disasters such as flood and fire.

He reiterated that NAF will continue to play a vital role in the movement of critically injured individuals and patients requiring urgent medical attention to appropriate areas.

“The NAF has also established two hospitals at Bama and Dalori IDP camps in Borno state where it has also providing feeding to over one thousand (1,000) school children as well as the provision of complete package of sanitary items for young babies.

“Internally Displace Persons especially women and girls have serious issues with hygiene and the provision of sanitary pads is key”. He added

Air Marshal Abubakar also said NAF recently distributed palliatives to the poor and vulnerable members of host communities to cushion the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He further stated that the service will continue to support Federal Government COVID-19 response through airlift operation, provision of liquid oxygen as well as the provision of medical facilities for use in isolation centers.

“The service also conducted a mission to distribute lifesaving medical supply and equipment to various parts of the country, in addition, the NAF has airlifted West African health organizations donated COVID-19 medical supply to 13 West African countries using the NAF craft” Abubakar said.

Air Marshal Abubakar said the airlift of the set of conjoined twins (Mercy and Grace) along with the medical team from Bayelsa to the FMC Yola for surgery is part of humanitarian services of NAF.
