Katsina State government has set up a committee for the rehabilitation of repentant bandits, Leadership newspaper reports.

It was gathered that bandits who want to leave the forest where they have been practicing the nefarious activities would be resettled in a more convenient place being constructed by the government.

The Secretary to the Government of the State, (SGS) Mustapha Mohammed Inuwa, stated this during a press briefing on security and social intervention programmes held at Government House.

He said the government had constituted a committee to relocate the repentant bandits to a more convenient settlement located around the Rugu forest with schools, healthcare infrastructure, and markets.

He further explained, he said that the purpose of resettling the bandits was to provide them with farmlands for cattle rearing and other Agric-related activities.

“We have completed plans to resettle those who accept to leave banditry to an approved settlement near Rugu forest, this is part of a design by the government to clear the forests from being inhabited by bandits.

The committee is set to work on the needed infrastructures anytime from now.

“The settlement areas being considered to include, Yantumaki, Maidabino forest area and Sabuwa/Faskari forests”, he said.
