Babajide Sanwo-olu, the Governor of Lagos, has directed that integrity test should be conducted on all schools with more than two-storey buildings in the State to ensure the safety of students. The order comes after a private school building collapsed on Saturday.
Recall that about 48-hours to the reopening of schools, following closure since March, due to COVID-19, a three-storey building in Excel Secondary School at the Ejigbo area of Lagos, collapsed at 8:15 am. There was no casualty.
The building had shown signs of distress and the school was planning to renovate and refortify the structure, Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency revealed.
Meanwhile, the state government instructed that the failed structure should be completely demolished. It said the building collapsed because the school ignored structural regulations.
