Police spokesman in the state DSP Suleiman Nguroje in a statement said, news making the round to the effect that the police arrested the protester and demanded N150,000 for bail were malicious aimed at causing disaffection.
” The attention of Adamawa state police command has been drawn to a publication “EndSARS Protest: Adamawa police arrests protester, N150,000 demanded.
” As a matter of fact, on 20/10/2020, one Dominic Edmond, a manager Centuary Hotel, Jimeta, Yola North, arrested and brought to police, one Stephen Reuben 22-years, a resident of Bachure and reported against him a case of criminal trespass and attempt to commit theft. The case was investigated and charged to chief magistrate court 2, Jimeta on First Information Report.
” Unfortunately, the mother of the said Stephen Reuben, (suspect), then approached one Yusuf Kawu, a charge and bail crook, resident of Demsawa to assist her and secure the bail of her son who made a demand of N50,000 from her to cause a wrongful gain to himself and tarnish the good image of the police.
” The command had since apprehended the crook and commenced investigation into the matter.
” The command advised members of the general public to be aware of fraudsters who parade themselves as “charge and bail” extorting money from members of the public telling them lies.
“The commissioner of police Olugbenga Adeyanju, commended Journalists for making such known to the command and equally advised them to always verify their reports before making it to the public,” the statement said.
