EGBU, IMO STATE — Egbu is a town in Owerri North Local government of Imo state. It has a lot of other smaller villages and has one of the busiest junctions in Imo state. Christiana Junction as it is popularly called, is along Owerri-Umuahia road and since a lot of people live in Egbu and others places around this town, they would have to pass through that junction to get to their houses.

But during the latter part of the day, especially from 4pm downwards, the road leading to that junction from Wetheral road usually suffers bad traffic jam. This causes the vehicles to move at slow speed and it also delays the transportation of people to their various locations.
For people who dismiss from work around 6pm or after, they might have problems getting home before it gets dark and it’s not advisable for anyone to be walking on the streets during that time for security reasons.
Now, one would wonder what the traffic would be like during the festive season when people will travel down from their places of residence to their villages to see their loved ones and enjoy the Christmas celebrations. In times past, the traffic used to be so bad during Christmas period that one might stay on the road for over 4 hours in a journey which normally should have taken 2 hours.

It would be very nice if the agencies in charge of traffic control would deploy more traffic wardens to those areas that usually experience high volume of vehicular movement and see to it that there is free flow of traffic.
