The spokesman for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Yekini Nabena , on Friday accused Zamfara state government of sponsoring banditry and insecurity in the North-West states.
The ruling party also alleged the main opposition, Peoples Democratic Parties (PDP), of playing politics with the country’s security challenges.
The allegation followed the abduction of hundreds of students by the terrorist group, Boko-Haram, in Katsina, but later found and released in Zamfara.
Speaking to VOA-Hausa , Yekini Nabena, the party deputy spokesperson, alleged that the APC’s “investigation intelligence report” showed Zamfara is colluding with criminals.
‘’ If you look at the situation whereby you see Zamfara state for example where it gives amnesty to some of the bandits anyhow and if you also look, almost all victims of kidnappings were mostly taken to Zamfara because they (bandits) have solace there!
‘’In fact, even the Kankara schoolboys were taken to Zamfara. All the bandits terrorizing Katsina state are coming from Zamfara.
‘’ What we are saying is that let not PDP use people’s lives in politicking ,because it will not augur well.
“Our security agencies have intelligence reports on how some politicians are colluding and sponsoring the violent and criminal activities of bandits in the zone.
“However, relevant security agencies must as a matter of urgency investigate the report and determine its veracity. Human life is not what we should play political chess games with,”
Zamfara Reacts
But in a swift reaction, Special Adviser to Zamfara state governor, Mallam Zailani Bappa described the allegations as a fatuous and infantile statement by a ruling party APC.
Zailani Bappa said ‘’ Our government inherited an eight –years security problem which spanned the APC ruling in the Zamfara state; their reign in the state recorded the worst blood-letting period; in a single day over 50 persons were being killed, in fact sometimes, 100-150 were recorded killed in a single day.
‘’ Because, they (APC) had failed here in the state and that’s why they are now jittered with the peace and development being recorded under Mutawalle led government.
‘’ The Mutawalle’s administration had significantly subdued the heinous acts of banditry unlike during the APC led government.
‘’ The much talked forest in Zamfara is vast and wide as it cuts across Sokoto, Kebbi and other neighboring states.
‘’ Besides, the state governments don’t control security agencies and operatives, it’s so amazing and shameful to hear the ruling APC pointing accusing fingers that it’s a state government harboring bandits.
‘’ “It remains a cheap and malicious insinuation to link the state government with backing banditry.
The governor’s spokesman, therefore, asked APC to stop dangerously mixing insecurity plaguing some states and ‘’dirty politics”.
