No less than Nigerians who have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine has exceeded 350,000, says the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).

The information on the nationwide vaccination was published by the agency on Friday in a tweet.

Nigeria commenced vaccination on March 5, after receiving 3.9 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine through the United Nations-led COVAX facility.

According to the NPHCDA, as of Friday, 374,585 persons have been given the first dose of the vaccine in Nigeria.

Currently, Lagos has the highest number of residents vaccinated with 91,857 doses administered, followed by Ogun with 36,953 residents.  Bauchi clinched the third spot with 31,321 people vaccinated.

The states with the lowest vaccination figures are Abia (4), Kebbi (1), and Taraba (1), while Kogi is the only state yet to begin vaccination.

According to the presidential task force (PTF) on COVID-19, Kogi is yet to receive the doses because the state lacks the necessary storage facilities although the state governor, Yahaya Bello had earlier rejected the vaccine on the ground that the state has more pressing cases to address.

“COVID-19 is not our business in Kogi State. We have more prominent issues, more pertinent issues, more serious matters that we are attending to in Kogi state.

“COVID-19 is just a minute aspect of what we’re treating in Kogi state or handling in Kogi state. There have been outbreaks of Lassa Fever, Yellow Fever — those we handled without making noise about it,” the governor had said.
