KANO — Nigerian Customs officers at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, (MAKIA) have arrested a Saudi Arabia returnee with a bag filled with foreign currency equivalent to N1billion.

It was learned that the returnee arrived on a 2 pm Ethiopian Airlines flight on Thursday afternoon.

According to the source “upon checking the luggage, different foreign currencies such as US Dollars, Euro, Pounds Sterling, and Saudi Riyal were discovered equivalent to N1billion.”

It was gathered that the returnee connived with some airport staff to divert his luggage through a backdoor but the customs insisted on checking the bags.

Both the suspect and the money have been carted away to the customs headquarters in Kano for further investigation.

However, the Head, Corporate Communications at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Maimuna Tadafe is yet to respond to the allegation put to her via a text message.
