MINNA — Gunmen have abducted the Niger state Commissioner for information and Strategy, Alhaji Muhammed Sanni Idris in his hometown Baban Tunga in Tafa Local Government Area of the state, in the early hours of Monday.
Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, Secretary to the Government of Niger State, who confirmed the abduction, said it happened around 1.am.
According to Matane, security personnel are already on the trail of his abductors, expressing hope that they would be able to trace and rescue him unhurt.
“He was kidnapped in the early hours of today around 1 am at Baban Tunga in Tafa local government. Security is already on the trail of the kidnappers, we hope they would discover him soon and rescue him un-harm,” he said.
Similarly, gunmen suspected to be armed bandits have kidnapped Zone C (Niger North Senatorial District) chairman of the ruling party All Progressives Congress (APC), Malam Aminu Bobi, in Mariga Local Government Area of the state.
Bobi was said to have been kidnapped on Saturday while working on his farm in the community.
A resident in the area confirmed that the embattled APC zonal chairman went to the farm on a fateful day, but did not return home, feared to have been abducted by some gunmen suspected to be armed bandits.
The Niger State Police Command has not reacted to the development as of press time.
