YOLA — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Adamawa State Command has reiterated its commitment to work with Nongovernmental Organizations (NGOs) in the fight against drug abuse in the state.
Idris Mohammed Bello, Adamawa state Commander of the agency gave the assurance when officials of the Stop Abusing Youth (SAY) foundation, Adamawa state chapter paid him a courtesy call in his office Monday.
“Drug abuse is a serious problem and a contributing factor to all other crimes, people take drugs before they can commit other crimes, we have to do everything possible to curb the drug usage in our society.”
“NDLEA cannot do this alone, we need NGOs to support us, we need people who are committed for us to do the project together.” Bello said.
He assured the organization that NDLEA will give them technical support in their activities so that accurate information is delivered to the targeted group in the society.
“The focus on the junior sets in Secondary School is a welcome idea, from that age let us get them, let them know the dangers of drug abuse, let them know why they should not go into drug usage,” he said.
Bello stated that the agency had made remarkable success in arrests and seizures almost on a daily basis since the chairman of the Agency General Buba Marwa (rtd) came on board.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation who is also the chairman Stop Abusing Youth (SAY) Foundation, Adamawa state chapter Muhammad Sani lauded officers and men of NDLEA across the country under the leadership of Gen Buba Marwa (rtd) for success recorded in the fight against drug abuse and illicit business of narcotics and its related substances.
“Nigerians should celebrate the large seizure and arrests made by NDLEA in the first quarter of this year, as such communities and NGOs should contribute their quota in the fight against drug abuse in all facets,” Sani said.
He said their visit is to solicit support of NDLEA in a project initiated by the organization aimed at curbing the high rate of drug addicts in the society.
“The project is geared towards enlightening students of Junior Secondary Schools across Adamawa state on the dangers of drug abuse so as to prevent our future generation from partaking in drug abuse considering the high rate of drug addicts in the country,” Sani added.
