YOLA — As part of its effort to bring to an end security challenges facing Nigeria, the Adamawa State chapter of Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) will soon organize a summit tagged “NIPR Citizen’s Summit for Integration, Peace and Security.”

Inaugurating members of the committee Wednesday at Dan Tsoho Hotel, Yola, Coordinator of the summit, Alhaji Mohammad Inuwa Bassi said the security challenges facing the nation call for a participatory approach involving various stakeholders.

Bassi lamented that the security situation in the country threatens peace and development hence the decision to hold the summit for integration, peace and security.

“There is trust of gap existing between leaders and the led. Security situation in the country threatens our peace and development—with armed banditry, kidnapping and insurgency on the rise.”

“This why we have stepped forward to organize the citizens summit on National Integration, peace and security and also inaugurate the state consultative For a who will collaborate with organizations, individuals, professional, traditional and Religious bodies that believe in the integrity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and burden about the current state of the nation.”

“Our target is to initiate a credible and robust process for genuine national integration through activation of national reconciliation, restoration of trust in relationships, promotion of mutual respect and love, rebuilding of peace and security processes, as well as relaying the foundation for Nigeria rebirth,” Bassi added.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Adamawa state chairman of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Usman Ahmad Dada said the institute was established in 1963 as public relations Association of Nigeria and renamed NIPR in 1972 and the body attained the status of a chartered institute on 1st June, 1990 through decree No.16 (now an act of the National Assembly).

“The law empowers the institute to register members, regulate and monitor the practice/development of the PR profession as well as monitor professional conducts. The law also allows standard academic and professional qualifications for admissions into the institute,” he said.

Dadah said the institute has charted a new course of action with a well-packaged work plan towards reinvigorating the institute in Adamawa.

Responding, the chairman of the organizing committee of the summit, Prof. Abubakar Abba Tahir said the task ahead is challenging considering the security breaches bedevilling Nigeria.

The committee members are Prof. Abubakar Abba Tahir as chairman, Shehu Aliyu vice-chairman, Ahmad Isa Mbamba as secretary, the States chairmen of Nigeria institute of Public Relations, Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, the Muslim council, the Christian Association of Nigeria CAN, Gamzaki Traders Association, the Nigeria Labour Congress, NUADSS, NAWOJ State Coordinator, General Manager ATV Yola, and State President NCWS as members.
