YOLA — To ensure farmers/herders co-habit peacefully in Ndikong village of Mayo Belwa Local Government Area, the Council Chairman, Mr. Gershon Kasuwa has called on them to live peacefully with one another.

He made the plea at the closing of a three-month training on peace and security organized by a non-governmental organization Mercy Corps in collaboration with the Adamawa state Ministry of Information and Strategy held in Ndikong in Mayo Belwa local government area Thursday.

Represented by the councillor representing Ndikong ward Mr. Apolos Galadima, the chairman charged farmers and herders in the area to live in peace and respect constituted authorities.

“No meaningful development will take place in an insecure environment, the trainees should step down the knowledge they had acquired during the training with others,” Kasuwa said.

The Council Chairman commended the Mercy Corps for organizing the training and pledged the council’s support at all times.

The Senior Program Officer of Mercy Corps Mr. Chorbe Joshua said the essence of the training is to equip the trainees with knowledge and skills of resolving conflicts between herders and farmers in communities.

“Government and relevant bodies should assist the two groups through sensitization and empowerment,” he said.

In his remark, the Secretary National Resource Management Committee of Ndikong ward Mr. Gabriel Daniel called onward heads in Ndikong to avoid allocating cattle routes to farmers.

He advised aggrieved farmers and herders to channel their grievances through appropriate authorities.

Also speaking, the village head of Ndikong Alhaji Bamanga Hamman Lamu warned herders to avoid grazing their animals at night.
