Thirty people have been confirmed positive with Lassa fever in six local government areas of Bauchi State.
The affected local government areas include: Bauchi, Bogoro, Ganjuwa, Kirfi, Tafawa Balewa and Toro.
Executive Chairman, State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, gave the figure in an interactive with journalists on the current situation of the disease, held at the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) in Bauchi.
Dr Mohammed attributed the surge of the disease due to the recent harvest in this year’s farming season.
He explained that from January to December this year, the state has recorded 153 probable cases, out of which 136 were tested and eight people were confirmed dead.
“The state government was taking necessary measures towards ensuring safety of the people, stressing that the Agency was waiting for intervention from the State Governor to procure more drugs and injectable drugs to handle the disease.
In order to control the spread of Lassa fever and other communicable diseases, Mohammed called on people of the state to follow personal and environmental hygiene.
