OKO — 2018/2019 academic students of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State, who rounded up their Higher National Diploma, HND, Programme, in May 2021, are blaming the Polytechnic for unnecessarily delaying them in serving their father’s land as Corp members, (National Youth Service Corps).

The students would have graduated in 2020 but were halted due to the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic, COVID-19.

Nine months after graduation, the graduands are yet to serve their father’s land, which could be attributed to poor administration of the incumbent rector and corruption of lecturers in the School.

The students are wailing that students in other schools have successfully gone for their National Youth Service Programme, but they are yet to, describing such unnecessary delay as uncalled for and an effort to jeopardize their future.

Based on this backdrop, many students interviewed lamented their predicaments and urged the school management to expedite action to enable them to start a new phase of life, ‘Life After School’.

According to Miss Ngozi (Surname Withheld) from Mass Communication Department, who shared her dilemma said ” Our result was just released during the second week of March, that is eight good months after writing my final papers. I don’t just understand this school, they are too dull and frustrating. I can’t go for my Youth service again since I clocked 31 years this year. I got admission in 2015 when I was 24 years thinking that I will round up when I will be 28 years. But as you can see this is 2022. A five years programme has turned to seven years”.

Another Mass Communication student, Mr. Chigozie called on the school management said he regretted coming to the school, adding that all his mates have successfully gone for their service and are now becoming self-reliant. “This school should just free us so that we can go for NYSC and chop our own government “Allawee”. This is wickedness and unusual. It is because non of their children are students in that school.

For, Miss Onyinye in the Computer Science department, “my sponsors have accused me of eating my school fees. I have lost several jobs because I had no evidence to show that I went to school. It’s indeed so pathetic that I haven’t gone for my NYSC after graduation.”

Other students in their various classroom Whatsapp groups are expressing their grief, asking God to come to their aide.
