In an effort to avert industrial action by Trade Union Congress (TUC), the Federal Government has adjourned a meeting with TUC leadership tomorrow Tuesday to allow for more consultations.

Dele Alake, leader of the Federal Government negotiation team, told newsmen that adoption of the agreement needed President Bola Tinubu’s consideration.

“This engagement has been very productive. The TUC that attended today presented a list of demands, which we have studied and will present to Mr. President for his consideration. But those demands, we can announce to Nigerians that a lot of the items on the list are not impracticable”, he said.

Alake said the President would set up a committee, comprising Federal and State Governments, organized labour, and private sector representatives to study the dynamics of the wage increase.

On his part, Festus Osifo, President of the TUC called on the government to revert to the status quo.

“Topmost in our demand was clearly stated that for utmost good faith, and in the interest of social dialogue they should refer back to the pump price while discussion continues,” Osifo said.

He hopes that the government would review the wages in the best interest of Nigerian workers.
