Following the looting of government and public properties by miscreants in Kano under the guise of the #EndBadGovernance nationwide protest, operatives of the Kano Police command have launched a house-to-house search in an attempt to recover some of the looted items.
The protest which initially started in a peaceful mood, later degenerated into violent as hoodlums hijacked the protest and embarked on a looting spree in stores, houses, and government establishments, such as the yet-to-be-commissioned office of the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC).
The hoodlums carted away provisions, essential commodities, furniture, and electronic items, among others, and also vandalized street lights and other items used to decorate public places.
In a swift move, the Kano State Governor declared a 24-hour curfew and the Police swung into action, arrested over 400 suspects, and recovered some of the stolen items.
At a news briefing on Friday, the Kano Police Command Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa who spoke on behalf of the Commissioner of Police CP Salman Dogo Garba commended the Kano State Government for prompt intervention in imposing the 24-hour curfew.
He reiterated the commitment of the Police Command to ensure that perpetrators of the mayhem that broke out during the protest are brought to book.
CP Garba called on parents, guardians, and the law-abiding people of the State who saw their wards with looted properties to voluntarily return the same to the nearest Police Station.
