…Committee Targets More
The Edo State Vehicle Recovery Committee has retrieved 30 state-owned vehicles from officials of the immediate past administration under former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The Chairman of the recovery committee, Kelly Okungbowa, announced the development in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua, on Thursday.
Okungbowa disclosed that the latest recovery, which took place last Friday, included one Hilux van and two Toyota Hiace buses.
He further revealed that four additional vehicles were retrieved from the residence of a former senior official, while another vehicle was seized from a separate individual.
“We have recovered two Land Cruiser Jeeps and two Toyota Hilux vehicles from a former high-ranking official of the immediate past government,” Okungbowa said.
“One of the vehicles contained campaign posters and umbrellas. Another Hilux vehicle was also recovered, bringing the total number of vehicles retrieved since our operation began to 30.”
He praised whistleblowers for their significant contributions to the recovery efforts, emphasising the committee’s commitment to rewarding individuals who provide helpful information.
Okungbowa assured Edo residents that the committee would meet its two-week deadline to complete its assignment.
He stated, “We are prepared to travel across the country to recover any state-owned vehicles wherever they may be located. We appeal to the public for more information to aid our operations.”
The Edo State government under Governor Monday Okpebholo has stressed its commitment to ensuring accountability and recovering assets unlawfully retained by officials of the previous administration.
