Inmates serving various jail terms in custodial facilities in Kano State have been enrolled in the State’s Health Contributory Scheme.
Rahila Aliyu Muktar, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, KACHMA, made this disclosure during a visit to the Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Ado Inuwa, in his office, said the step is to ensure they now enjoy health insurance coverage.
According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Musbahu Lawan Kofar Nasarawa, the scheme will provide inmates with access to basic and comprehensive healthcare services while in custody.
The Executive Secretary assured the Controller of the state government’s readiness to support and assist all inmates medically.
Responding, Ado Inuwa, Controller of Corrections noted that the gesture would help motivate inmates to become productive and law-abiding citizens after their release and appreciated the state government’s support and assistance.
“The health and medical welfare of inmates are essential for efficient custodial management and for the effective reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates,” he noted.
