Popular Nigerian prophet, Evangelist Ebuka Obi, founder of Zion Prayer Movement Outreach, is at the centre of controversy after a woman’s testimony about acquiring a ₦500 million mansion was exposed as false.

The woman, identified as Loveth Aluu, had testified during a church service that her business grew from ₦300,000 to the ownership of a luxurious mansion in Lekki, Lagos, attributing the breakthrough to Zion Ministry.

“Zion is the best, this is the last bus stop. I have my evidence here,” she declared while displaying images of the property.

Prophet Obi presented the images to his congregation, urging them to “stand up and claim it, receive your favour.”

However, investigations revealed that Ms. Aluu had no ownership of the mansion, which actually belongs to Robo Consult, a real estate firm.

The company reported Ms. Aluu to the police after discovering she had falsely claimed the property, which is located at WTC Estate in Enugu.

“The lady in question is currently in police custody, and we are trusting that the whole truth will be unravelled,” Robo Consult said, adding that the house had not been sold as of Sunday.

A company staff member explained that Ms. Aluu had initially visited the property under the pretense of introducing a potential buyer.

“We allowed her to talk to the client in the building for a few seconds. Unknown to us, she made a video of herself inside the building, claiming she had already paid for the building,” the staff member revealed.

Reacting to the scandal during his Night of Open Heaven programme on Saturday, Prophet Obi distanced himself from Ms Aluu and her testimony.

“Do I know her? Does any member know her? She came to testify, just like hundreds of others who come here daily,” he said.

He insisted that if her claims were false, “then she lied before God and His altar—not the ministry.”

This is not the first time Prophet Obi has faced allegations of staged miracles.

In 2023, he was accused of falsely claiming to have healed the late Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu. The actor, who underwent multiple surgeries and a leg amputation, passed away on 2 March 2024.
