In preparation for the re-opening of social centres in Lagos, the state government has begun verifying and certifying social clubs across Lagos.
The move by the government is part of the register-to-open initiative which the government disclosed last month that the registration and verification exercise would ensure adequate space management to guarantee social distancing, hygiene and safety measures at all religious and social centres.
The Director-General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola said the commission had started issuing certificates to social centres which were registered and verified. He added that certified centres were not allowed to begin operations until Governor Sanwo-Olu gave the green light.

“It will be in the best interest of all social, event and betting centres, bars, night clubs, gaming arcades, casinos and all the businesses captured under the ‘Register-to-Open’ initiative to do so in earnest, in order to allow the verification process to take place,” Mojola said.
The West African Pilot News recalls that Governor Sanwo-Olu had said sectors that would be given priority for full re-opening, include manufacturing and construction because they employ large numbers of people. Other sectors including entertainment, hospitality, and aviation industries would be considered in the second phase of intervention.
