Crime & SecurityNewsNAWOJ Calls for Strict Measures to Curtail Rape, Human Right Abuses In Kano

Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has appealed to Kano State Government and other stakeholders to increase strict measures to curtail the incessant increase in cases of rape, domestic violence and drug abuse.

NAWOJ Kano Chairperson and Secretary  Bilkisu Ado Zango and Wasila Ladan in a communiqué jointly signed after the association meeting on Saturday expressed worries that a state like Kano by the day has new cases of people whose human rights are being abused or violated by their loved ones and society.

The communiqué urged Kano State Government to sustain awareness and sensitization on COVID-19 disease and the need for residents to abide by the health protocol to prevent the spread of the disease.

‘’Diseases do not know borders, it is thus very important for the state government and REMSAB to look into the situation of sanitation in the state especially now that it’s raining season,’’ said the communiqué.

‘’Government should help in encouraging communities to clear their drainages and when they do, REMASAB should be available to clear the waste they take out. This will help to reduce the spread of malaria, cholera, and flood as well as maintain the roads built by the government.’’
