Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have on Tuesday’s night abducted member representing Nguroje Constituency in Taraba state House of Assembly Hon. Barr Bashir Mohammed Bape.

Reports say that Bape was kidnapped in his residence near Comprehensive Secondary School, in Jalingo, the state capital.

“The gunmen who came in numbers over powered the vigilantes guarding the house and went straight to his sleeping room.

‘’They whisked him away, and on leaving the scene, they (gunmen) fired on air which scared us.

‘’In their numbers, the gunmen were said to have alighted from motorcycles at about 1:00 am while people are deep –sleeping.

“Immediately they entered, they seized all handsets belonging to the people in the compound.

“They then dragged the member to their motorcycles and whisked him away without saying anything,” said one of his neighbor who preferred anonymity.

In the meantime, efforts to get the state police spokesman proved abortive as his GSM phone line couldn’t go through.

Recalls that this is the second time a member of the state House of Assembly has been kidnapped in recent years.

Late Mr Hosea Ibi, a member representing Takum 1 constituency was first to be kidnapped on Dec. 30, 2017 in Takum during the Yuletide festivities.

He was picked at gunpoint and whisked away by his abductors on a motorcycle.

After weeks of search and payment of ransom, the dead body of the lawmaker was found along Takum – Kashimbilla road.
