The West African Pilot (WAP) had reported how an outlaw gang had stormed a government science secondary school in the council area on Friday and attacked the students.
The protesters carried placards with inscriptions, such as ‘Government Must Speak Out’, ‘We Want our Children Back’, and ‘We Want Security in Kankara’.
They aggrieved citizens called on the government to secure the immediate release of the students and ensure security in the community.
Also, news of the kidnap sparked the outburst of many, leaving #bringbackourboy on top trends.
Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka while reacting to the attack called the incident a slap on the face of the Commander-in-chief.
He criticised the spate of attacks on innocent citizen and the unending problem of insecurity in Nigeria.
“Beneath the dignity of a Commander-in-Chief! Well. The opportunistic homicidal respondents -Bandits/Boko Haram or whoever – thereupon picked up the gauntlet and provided a response in their language: abduction once again of the nation’s children. They handed him a slap across the face, on his home terrain, taunting: See if that is more suited to your dignity,” he said.
In another vein, Marie-Pierre Poirier, the UNICEF Regional Director for West and Central Africa demanded that the FG secure the release of the schoolboys immediately.
“UNICEF condemns in the strongest possible terms this brutal attack and calls for the immediate release of all children and their return to their families. UNICEF is deeply concerned about this act of violence. Attacks on schools are a violation of children’s rights.”
