Ahead of the 2025 Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the Police Command in Kano State has restated the restriction of all forms of Durbar activities in the state.
A statement issued by the command’s PPRO, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, explained that no change in the restriction on the performance of Durbar activities is allowed, as it was first imposed during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations of 2025 due to reliable intelligence information indicating certain intended curtailments.
The police noted that certain individuals and their sponsors were plotting to use the Durbar to threaten peace and security in the state.
The statement read in part: “The Command therefore reiterates that the ban on all forms of Durbar in the state is still in force and will be strictly enforced during this 2025 Eid-el-Kabir celebration, as the threats which have been put to serious checks are still potent,” “No horse or animal riding of any kind (Kilisa); No car racing, reckless, or dangerous driving; No unlawful possession or reckless display of firearms or weapons; No carrying of any unnecessary or hazardous objects that may trigger suspicion.
This was given in a public statement by the Command on June 3, 2025, in conjunction with other sister security agencies in the state.
The police, while wishing all the Muslim faithful and another law-abiding residents of the State of Kano peaceful Sallah celebrations, said the Police, in conjunction with other sister security agencies in the state, would ensure maintenance of law and order during and after the celebrations.
It further stressed that adequate public order prevention measures are already in place for the people’s safety during these celebrations.
“Parents and guardians were advised to caution their children and wards against being used by subversive elements.
“The police and other security agencies are ready to enforce the law strictly and have warned the public against any acts likely to cause a breach of the peace,” the statement said.
It then encouraged residents to use the festive period to pray for the state, the country, and to remember the Kano athletes who lost their lives while returning from the National Sports Festival.
The restatement of the ban comes just a few hours after the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, instructed his district heads to begin preparations for the Eid-el-Kabir (Babbar Sallah) durbar celebrations.
