Some governors of the All Progressive Congress and anti-Oshiomhole forces are planning to call a meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) in a few days to determine the fate of the suspended National Chairman.

According to Punch newspaper, some APC governors were looking for Mr. Oshiomhole’s successor to be announced in a soon-to-be convened NEC meeting.

A top member of the party who did not want to be named was quoted as saying that the NEC meeting was to “consider a way forward.”

“They are likely to pick an acting National Chairman and prepare for a substantive chairman. They are considering asking him to honourably resign. The President refused to say anything on the matter when they ran to him. As things stand, an emergency meeting is on the cards because until the court order is vacated, Oshiomhole cannot convene any official meeting,” the high-ranking APC member told Punch newspaper.

The West African Pilot News reported how Oshiomhole was ordered by Justice Danlami Senchi of the High Court in the Federal Capital Territory to stop parading himself as the National Chairman of the party until the substantive suit seeking his permanent removal from the position was determined. The judge also told the APC that it was wrong to have continued to recognize Comrade Oshiomhole as the chairman since he had been suspended by his ward in Edo State.

The APC said it would obey the court order.

Not long after the order was given by the court, Oshiomhole, through his lawyer, Mr. Damian Dodo (SAN) appealed against his suspension.

At the Court of Appeal in Abuja, standing on four grounds of appeal, he prayed for an order setting aside the interlocutory injunction given by Justice Senchi of the FCT High Court.

The notice of the appeal read that the Judge had “arrived at a wrong conclusion” in his ruling which has resulted in the “miscarriage of justice.”

Some top party members have reacted to the suspension order and the filling of vacant national positions by Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee.

Saliu Mustapha, the National Vice Chairman (Northeast), said any action taken by Oshiomhole was illegal and void.

“The Chairman is about to create more chaos within the party… The public should know that any decision that Oshiomhole makes henceforth is an illegal decision and will not hold,” he said.

But the spokesman of the APC, Lanre Issa Onilu said the appointment of Waziri Bulama, Abiola Ajimobi and Paul Chukwuma as its acting National Secretary, Deputy National Chairman (South) and National Auditor of the party respectively was reached on January 14, 2020 during the meeting of the NWC at the party’s national secretariat.

Other reactions to the suspension of Oshiomhole by the court include Obaseki and the APC chapters in EDO and Zamfara States. They all said the Chairman should step down.
