NewsNigeriaBREAKING: Kano Government Appoints New Emir Hours After Sanusi was Dethroned

Few hours after the Kano State Government dethroned Malam Sanusi as the Emir of Kano, a new Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, has been appointed.

Aminu Bayero is the son of the late Emir Ado Bayero and before his appointment, was the Emir of Bichi. Bichi Emirate was one of the newly created emirates by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje that generated controversies.

The West African Pilot News had reported that Usman Alhaji, the secretary to the government of the federation released a statement announcing the dethronement of Mr. Sanusi.

The embattled Emir was deposed after 5 years, 9 months and 2 days after being accused of showing disrespect to the Office of the Governor.

There are reports that the deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi had been banished to Nasarawa State and was escorted by some palace officials to the airport.

Aminu Bayero’s appointment makes him the 15th Emir of Kano. He was reportedly the preferred choice of the King makers in 2014, but former Governor Rabiu Kwakwanso allegedly preferred Muhammadu Sanusi. There are reports that Mallam Sanusi was removed by Governor Ganduje because he was allegedly not loyal to the Governor.

In 2019, when Governor Ganduje broke up the Kano Emirate and Aminu Bayero became the Emir of Bichi, Mr. Bayero said in an interview with Daily Trust that “Sanusi is my brother. He has respect for me and I have respect for him. I am from the royal family… So because I am appointed emir, I don’t think he will feel offended and I don’t think he will not support me to succeed in all my undertakings. I have no grudges against him whatsoever and I don’t think he has any against me.”
