The Northern Christian Elders have accused President Muhammadu Buhari of failing to reflect religious and ethnic diversity of the nation in his appointments, a statement released Sunday disclosed.

The Christian Elders Forum of Northern States, comprising of Christian Elders from the 19 Northern States and Abuja, led by Elder Ejoga Inalegwu, spoke after a meeting held in Kaduna, Punch Newspaper reports.

The Elders condemned the worsening insecurity in the country and the Government’s inability to put an end to the activities of terrorists and bandits.

“Rising from our executive meeting held in Kaduna on Saturday, March 7, 2020,” the Forum’s Chairman said in statement. “NOSCEF expresses deep concern over the increasing activities of bandits and terrorists occasioned by widespread killings across the nation.

“The most recent of these killings took place in Garkida, Adamawa State; Igabi and Giwa in Kaduna State; and the Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, among others.

“The failure of security apparatus in place, calls for a complete overhaul of the security architecture, reflecting the diversity of the nation to win the confidence of the people.

“Ironically, almost all the security chiefs are from a section of the country which is worst hit by the criminals who are unleashing mayhem on the people.”

The group also said it had not seen concrete steps by the Federal Government to make appointments reflective of the diversity of the country.

“NOSCEF also wishes to state that it has not seen any attempt by the Federal Government to remedy the skewed appointments that have failed to reflect the religious and ethnic diversity of the nation.

“Rather, we continue to witness the replacement of even the few appointees outside the nepotistic enclave by those already dominating.

“The appointments have been particularly unfair to the northern Christians,” the Christian Elders said.

The Elders said they were expecting the government to ensure the release of Leah Sharibu. Pleased with the manner the Borno State Governor, Prof. Babangana Zulum was handling the security situation in his state, the Christian Elders commended the governor for “identifying and standing by his people against terrorism, his openness to all and commitment to good governance.

They appealed to the northern governors to emulate the Amotekun initiative by the southwest governors, in order to “put an end to the menace of terrorism and banditry, which is ravaging the North and destroying her socio economic activities.”
