The transmission company of Nigeria (TCN) has said that the shortage of power supply experienced across the country was due to low gas supply and it would last for ten days.
According to the statement released by the General Manager for Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the management of thermal stations across the country which depend on gas to generate elelctricity said they would require ten days carry out maintenance work on gas facilities.
“The nation’s power sector is experiencing power supply shortage caused by low gas supply which has restrained the ability of many thermal power stations to generate optimally.”
While Sapele NIPP, Olorunsogo NIPP, Ihovbo NIPP and Azura Edo power plants did not generate any power on March 6, Egbin (steam), Sapele (steam) Delta (gas), Geregu (gas), Omotosho (gas), Olorunsogo (gas), Geregu NIPP, Alaoji NIPP, Omotosho NIPP, Odukpani NIPP, Okpai (Gas/Stream) and Omoku (gas) power generating plants generated at lower capacities.
Mrs. Mbah said the maintenance activities carried out by gas suppliers was the cause of the power supply shortage.
“TCN has however discussed with the management of some of the affected power plants and many of them attributed their challenges to gas pipeline and processing maintenance being carried out by their gas suppliers.”
“According to the management of some of the affected power plants, the maintenance of gas facilities are expected to last for ten days. Therefore, it is expected that the gas supply challenges will ease before the end of next week,” She said
