The crisis in the All Progressive Congress (APC) seems to be aggravating as some of its leaders in the South-South endorsed Victor Giadom, as acting National Chairman and insisting Oshiomhole must go.

The decision reached in a zonal caucus meeting held on Thursday night in Abuja. They also insisted that the National Executive Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday must hold and that all members of the party from the six zones should attend the meeting.

Four ministers attended the meeting, including Rotimi Amaechi (Transport), Osagie Ehanire (Health); Festus Keyamo (State Labour); and Goddy Jeddy Agba (State Power).

Others include former Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba, former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Nguru Usani; and ex-NIMASA boss, Dakuku Peterside.

The embattled National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, and the National Vice Chairman, Hilliard Eta, (South-South), were absent. Ovie Omo-Agege, Deputy Senate President, did not attend.

In the communique read by Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, the members commended Victor Giadom for “rising to the occasion by providing leadership for the party in this trying time.”

They also expressed support for the NEC meeting scheduled to be held next Tuesday and stated that the “NEC is the only recognised organ under the constitution of our party to resolve the APC crisis.”

“That we insist that the party should respect the current zoning arrangement by retaining the chairmanship of our great party in the south-south zone even in an acting capacity.

“We resolved that the most senior officer of the party from the zone, being Chief Victor Giadom, should be confirmed Acting National Chairman for the time being.”

They also urged party members in the zone to attend the meeting. According to them, “boycott in a democratic environment is always counterproductive.”

Members who are against the NEC meeting are Babatunde Ogala Esq (legal adviser), Mallam Lanre Onilu (publicity secretary), and Arc, Waziri Bulama (newly appointed secretary yet to be inaugurated).

The crisis rocking the ruling party took a new turn on Thursday when posters at the party’s national secretariat containing Mr. Oshiomhole’s pictures were removed. Only signs containing photographs of President Buhari were left.

Last week, Comrade Oshiomhole was ordered by an Abuja court to stop parading himself as the Chairman of the party. The judge also ordered the party to adhere to its constitution, and those security agencies should prevent Mr. Oshiomhole from gaining access to the party. Another court judgment was given by a Kano court ordering the APC not to implement the suspension of Mr. Oshimhole from the party by his ward. Mr. Oshiomhole appealed to the Abuja court ruling, but a date has not been fixed for hearing.
