At least ten people were critically reported injured while others arrested on Monday evening when police fired teargas to disperse wedding celebrations in Fufore town of Adamawa state, locals have said.

Reports say that the skirmish ensued when police fired tear gas on a crowd that gathered for a wedding event amidst the lockdown order slammed across the state.
A local resident who doesn’t want his name be mentioned confided that ‘’the crisis started as a result of the wedding celebration-Ajo-wedding donation, which took place in Fufore town.
‘’ While the program was about to end, a police patrol team pounced, warning people to leave because saying that they were not informed.

‘’Before you know, to disperse people they just start firing teargas unprovoked.
‘’Surprisingly, they (police) carted away all the money that was realized for the couples and had beaten up as well as searched our pockets.
‘’We were shocked, because that there communication with the police only for them to now change gloom face and turn down our request!’’ He exclaimed.
Reports indicate that the District Head of Ribadu Alh Abubakar Mahmud who visits the scene had to prevail on the youths in the town to calm down, assuring to intervene for.
Some of the victims of the teargas attack are women, their names read as thus: Larai Manu, Rashida Bello, Mairam Usman, Idris Sale, Hauwa Sani, Rukaiya, and Fatima Zahra and the critically wounded victims were rushed to Yola Specialist hospital for treatment.
In the meantime, the police spokesman in the state DSP Suleiman Nguroje is yet to comment saying that, ‘’ I am yet to get details but will get back as soon as possible.’’
