As Adamawa lockdown enters its seventh day with security and government tightening every nooks and cranny to ensure total compliance, an approximately 70-year-old retiree (names withheld) was reported to have slumped after trekking in the scorching sun from bank road in the city in an effort to reach his destination.

Reports say that the incident which occurred at about 4 pm on Tuesday at Airport roundabout popularly known as ‘’Roundabout Mai Doki’’ and attracted sympathizers who thronged the area to see if the deceased could be identified.

However, the victim did not die from COVID-19 but likely from the impact of the lockdown.

Eyes witnessed said that the deceased whose identification card showed that he was retired military personnel were alleged to have trekked to the Bank due to lack of transportation as a result of the lockdown and was on his way back to his destination but found dead under the shade of a tree.

‘’ He just sat under the shade of tree near this Roundabout Mai Doki where he was found dead.

‘’We found his retiree’s ID card and in possession of some money closed to N40,000,’’ said an eye witness, who sell fruits around the scene of the incident.

Police patrol team and passersby have since evacuated the corpse to the mortuary at Yola Specialist Hospital.

In the meantime, police spokesman in the state DSP Suleiman Nguroje  has confirmed the incident but police is yet to ascertain the cause of the death.

‘’Yes  I can confirm the incident, but already the state police commissioner had directed the state police homicide department to liaise with the ministry of health and other concern authorities to ascertain the cause of his death.

‘’ He  was a military retiree and hailed from Imburu in Numan local government area and his relatives were contacted,’’ said Nguroje.
