Contrary to rumour being peddled that the first COVID-19 index in Adamawa is dead,  hospital and government sources have confirmed that the victims are not dead and were in stable condition.

Some journalists wearing nose and mouth masks visited the isolation center at the Yola Specialist Hospital and saw the victim in a stable condition.

The quarantined victim, who returned from Kano a week ago told some reporters on phone that: ’’ I’m very much okay Sir, but it’s good I’m here, I think what I need to do is to even switch off my phone after making some important calls of my present condition to my people. ”

Ironically, a nurse was heard asking the man what he will eat,  as thus: “What can I bring for you?.” Asks the nurse,

“Please bring me swallow food,” the victim replied.

While confirming the index, Governor Ahmadu  Umaru  Fintiri had in a statewide broadcast to the people, said the index case was a returnee from Kano State last week whose samples were taken alongside two others and upon arrival from Kano and feeling sick, the victim has presented himself at the State Specialist Hospital, Yola for a consultation where he was isolated and his samples were taken for testing and came out positive Wednesday morning.

He added that government has put all apparatus needed to help him treated at the isolation centre in Yola and has commissioned a contract tracing mechanism to get all his contacts quarantined and tested.

Fintiri requested the people of Adamawa to prepare for a total lockdown to be announced in due course to prevent the state from the spread of the virus, in addition, urged citizens not to panic. 

NUJ Adamawa directs Journalists to work-at-home

Following the painful discovery of the index, the Nigeria Union of Journalists in the state, NUJ  has directed all its members across nine Chapels to start operating from home with effect from Thursday 23rd of April 2020.

Similarly, as the said first victim is a journalist, the NUJ  asked those that might have associated with the victim to go on self-isolation with immediate effect.

In the meantime, the leadership of NUJ has shut-down all other activities and businesses at the press centre Yola with effect from Friday 24th April 2020.
