Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has signed an executive order for the immediate closure of some markets including International Markets in Mubi and Ganye in a bid to curtail the spread of the coronavirus disease.

Other markets affected include border markets in  Fufore, Toungo, and Maiha.

The measure is coming after the state recorded six new cases of the coronavirus on Monday, five of which were from Mubi and one in Lamurde.

The Press Secretary to the governor, Humwashi Wonosikou in a statement
said, “the Order gives legal backing to the indefinite closure of Mubi Main and International Cattle Markets, and those of Chigari, Gurin, Wuro-Bokki in Fufore Local Government Area, Ganye Cattle Market as well as Konkol Cattle Market in Maiha Local Government Area.”

The executive order “also backs the resumption of work by Civil Servants on grade level 12 and above, effective from Monday 4th May 2020, while those on grade levels 1-10 are to be divided into 2 groups, for the purpose of reporting to duty between the hours of 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, on weekdays.”

The order asks officers on essential duty to carry on with their assigned responsibilities while maintaining safe distancing protocol and wearing of face mask at all times.

“Temperature checks and hand sanitizing protocols are to be strictly adhered to at all entry points and a number of visitors, limited to only invited persons, ” it further states.

The executive order also restricts the operation of recreational areas, facilities, and event centres such as Clubs, Bars, Gardens, and Beer Parlour.

It further stressed that “Parties, Weddings, and Religious gatherings in Mosques, Churches, Halls, and Buildings with whatever name called and open spaces are also banned. However, weddings and burials where necessary would not be attended by more than 15 people.”

The order also mandates tricycle operators to carry a maximum of 3 persons including the Rider, Taxis taxis/Cars are to carry only 4 persons at a time including the driver.

All parks and Bus stops are to maintain environmental hygiene and provide temperature checks and hand sanitizing points, wearing of face masks is also compulsory.

“Only vehicles conveying goods such as agro-products, Petroleum products, Medical supplies, Relief and Construction materials as well as Courier and Security services would be allowed entry into the State provided they satisfy conditions put in place by the COVID-19 Containment Committee, but be reminded that the State government will enforce strictly the ban on interstate travels,” it states.

According to the statement, schools across the state would remain closed until further notice but are encouraged to continue with e-learning and virtual teachings.

The statement also advised persons with underlying medical challenges and low immunity to remain at home as well as persons above 65 years.

The governor in the statement reminded residents of the State that security agencies have been mandated to arrest and prosecute anyone found to be contravening the guidelines through the mobile courts, while curfew remains applicable in the State from 8:00 pm till 6:00 am until further notice.
