Over 30 bodies have been interred after violence that occurred in Tigno town in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State, residents say.

Survivors and security agencies are still combing the bushes for more bodies, multiple sources have said Saturday’s morning.

Ethnic violence erupted on Friday following a disagreement between the Hausa community and Chabo tribe, after a motorcycle accident.

Most houses in the entire village were burnt down by the perpetrators, survivors have said.

The state governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri had on Friday evening visited the affected area during which he ordered the displaced persons to be evacuated to Lafiya primary school, in Lafiya where their safety is guaranteed.

Though the state government did not give casualty figures, while security agencies are still mute on the development however the residents are already counting their losses.

A ward head who pleaded anonymity said about 35 people died and buried after Islamic rites.

‘‘As of this morning, 35 corpses were already buried but I’m not sure about the number of the people that got injured.

‘‘People who ran into the bush for safety are yet to come back home, so we are yet to know the exact number of the people who got injured’’.

‘’ We learned that they (Chabos) attacked our rice farms, destroying products,’’ said he.

Another resident who simply identified himself as Baba said that said they are already compiling names of victims while some injured are taking medications.

‘’ About 40 corpses were counted this morning (Saturday), if not for the timely arrival of soldiers from Gombe, the casualty would have been disastrous, because immediately after Governor left yesterday they engaged us again in another fierce battle.

‘’ With the presence of soldiers, there is relative peace though we heard gunshots in the morning,’’ said the resident who participated in the funeral rites of those killed.

When contacted on the situation, a police spokesman in the state DSP Suleiman Yahya Nguroje said that the visit by the state governor,  Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in the company of security chiefs in the state have calm the nerves of the warring parties.

DSP Nguroje added that heavy security personnel has been drafted to the area to maintain law and order and so far six corpses have been recovered.

He added that those who fled have started returning following the restoration of peace while the investigation is ongoing to arrest those behind the crisis.
