Disturbed by the heinous activities of Shila Boys, a notorious criminal, and cultic group, residents of Yola, Adamawa state capital resorted to jungle justice as a  suspected Shila gang member who was lynched and set ablaze by an angry mob in Jambutu, was rescued by the police on Wednesday.

The Shila Boys, are notorious in gang-raping, seizing of phones, and attacking young women collecting their valuables using tricycles.

An eyewitness told our reporter that the incident took place at about 5:00 pm on Wednesday.

He noted that the Shila boy who snatched a phone from a lady in public glare was accosted by the mob after they were attracted by the cries of the robbed lady.

“The loud shriek of the lady attracted the attention of the people who immediately accosted the suspect.

“The suspect was unlucky as the tricycle he was using abruptly stopped, and he tried to escape on foot.

“The angry crowd caught up with him, beat him to a pulp, and set him on fire. But he was lucky the Jambutu DPO who was close by and immediately rescued the boy,” the source said.

Confirming the incident, police spokesman, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje said if not for the timely intervention of the police, the suspect would have been burnt to ashes.

He appealed to people to desist from taking the laws into their hands but should contact the police whenever there is a breakdown of law and others.

“Yes the victim has been rescued by the police and has been taken to hospital. The police, as usual, will investigate the incident and will bring anyone found taking laws into his hands to book,” he said
