The Cross River Government said no fewer than 11 trucks carrying Almajiri have been intercepted and sent back at the Gakem-Benue boundary of the state.

The activities were carried out by the state task force in collaboration with Peace Corps Nigeria.

This was disclosed on Thursday by the state’s head of the taskforce team at the border, Mr. Omang-Idiege. According to him, the trucks were intercepted and returned to their point of origin.

Idiege who is also the Commissioner for Youth Development and Skill Acquisition in the state added that the exercise took place between May 4 and May 17.

He added that the taskforce had continued to maintain its steady presence at the boundary.

He added that it was the desire of the state Governor, Ben Ayade, in ensuring that the state remained free from the coronavirus outbreak. This had necessitated the effective boundary surveillance.

Gakem is in Bekwarra local government area of Cross Rivers State. It is the state boundary post between Cross River and the Benue States.

Cross River State is one of the two states that have not recorded any coronavirus cases in Nigeria.
