In the wake of rise in sexual assault against women and children. the ever-increasing rise of rape cases, no fewer than nineteen suspected rapists and four homosexuals were nabbed by police in Adamawa state.
Parading the suspects on Wednesday, the state police commissioner, Olubenga Adeyanju explained that the command has keyed into fight against rape and violent crimes against women and children saying is a gross violation of human rights.
He said the suspects who were between the ages of 25 to 45 years were arrested at various places across the state for rape of under aged girls between the ages of seven to sixteen.
The police boss describes the attitudes as “unbearable,” hence reiterates the command readiness to deploy intelligent mechanism in addressing the menace.
He further revealed that a 30-year-old Zainab Jafaru reportedly arranged for her friend to be gang-raped and reportedly disappeared after taking her to the men.
He recalls, “On 13/6/2020, following a report received from a 33-year-old lady being raped by a syndicate of 9 at Gerio, a remote area of Jambutu, Yola North LGA, Police operatives attached to the command’s monitoring team, arrested five people: Ahmadu Ismail(20 years old); Salu Buba (25 years); Muhammad Ali (78 years); Abubakar Ali(28 years) and Zainab Jafaru (Female) 30 years.
“The incident happened on 12/6/2020 when the 5th Suspect Zainab Jafaru, deceived the complainant to accompany her to a certain place to meet her boyfriend.”
He expressed dismay at the manner some parents and guardians of victims of rape hide information to the police either as a result of stigmation or cultural believes.
To this end, Adeyanju appealled to parents and guardians in the state to desist from sending their underage children at night, ” if must, they should be accompanied by responsible adult.”
