Emergency officials in Lagos responded to an explosion accident and a boat mishap in parts of the State on Tuesday night.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said that a gas shop exploded at Afariogun Street, Ajao Estate.

“The explosion occurred from a shop where the occupant sells cabad and also refills gas cylinders. About nine shops were affected by the inferno.

“The fire had been put out by the combined effort of LRU fire and Lagos State Fire Services. The Agency’s officials have (sic) bagged two commodities and several pieces of bodies found at the incident scene. Operations still ongoing,” LASEMA said in statement.

Three persons were killed and four were injured in the accident which occurred at 7pm, according to the Nation.

The West African Pilot reports that the gas explosion occurred barely 24-hours after a gas leakage at Palmgroove Estate at Cappa Avenue, caused an explosion that killed one male adult and injured three others.

Meanwhile, a joint team of Marine Police and LASEMA officials also rescued 17 people from a boat mishap which occurred at Marine Police Headquarter, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, on Tuesday night.

“Investigation revealed that a boat capsized while enroute Ikoyi from Ilashe as the boat collided on unidentified substance,” Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA’s boss, stated.

No lives were lost in the mishap.
