War-ravaged communities and victims including widows and orphans in Nigeria will get support following a partnership between Familheey, an app built to connect families and communities and Soulace, a Nigeria-based not-for-profit organisation that addresses violent conflict and advocates for victims of extreme violence.

Soulace Africa will work with Familheey Networking platform to translate this partnership to physical and on-the-ground development through livelihood training, enterprise development and cooperative and thrift programmes, a statement announcing the collaboration read.

Violent conflicts have been on the increase in many parts of Nigeria in recent times. Over 250,000 people are displaced, and 37,000 people have died in the Northeast due to a decade of war against insurgency.

A committee set up to investigate banditry reported that in Zamfara State between June 2011 and May 2019, about 4,983 women were widowed; 25,050 children were orphaned, and more than 190,000 people were displaced as a result of armed banditry. Banditry and communal clashes have intensified in the Northwest, the Middle-belt, and the South.

These violent conflicts have ruined the economies of the affected regions and slowed development, leaving many communities in misery and survivors struggling to survive.

“Our Soulace Africa partnership gives us the unique opportunity to connect with Nigeria’s vulnerable war survivors, engage with them and grow a sustainable platform of livelihood for them,” said My Family Group CEO, Ken Chinweze. “At Familheey, we had set sights on transformative projects on the African continent at our very inception.”

In the wake of the pandemic, users of the Familheey mobile app operated by My Family Group, based in Houston Texas, were able to provide support for family and community members through a COVID-19 support feature on the app. The firm said that the feature helped users to provide direct relief to people undergoing pandemic-induced difficulties.

“We have found in Familheey a set of shared values and common passion for ethical social change. This for us is deep,” said Mr. Peter Adeeko, Founder Soulace Africa. “With our Familheey partnership, we at Soulace Africa will broaden our reach, widen our horizon, scale our impact and entrench our sustainability as an organization.”

Soulace plans to build a community platform for war affected families in Nigeria and across Africa and it hopes that a collaboration with Familheey will make it happen.
