The Police in Oyo State has rearrested suspected serial killer Sunday Shodipe who escaped from its custody two weeks ago.

Shodipe, 19, was rearrested on Sunday at the Bodija area of Ibadan, the Police said.

Recall that Shodipe confessed that he was sent by a traditionalist to go on murder missions and that he was given N500 and a plate of food each time he returned from a mission. He also confessed to killing six people at the Akinyele area of Ibadan.

The police informed members of the public that the suspect had escaped from their custody one week after it happened. The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, later deployed skilled and experienced crack detectives from Abuja to join the search for the suspect in Ibadan. A reward of N500,000 was promised for information that could help in the arrest.

However, the IGP has commended the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Joe Enwonwu for bringing the suspect back into custody.

“…equally expressed his (IGP Adamu) sincere appreciation to the citizens for their support and understanding while the manhunt for the rearrested Shodipe lasted,” A press release by the police read.

“Meanwhile, the IGP has warned against any form of complacency on the part of the operatives of the Oyo State Police Command, stressing that all hands must be on deck to bring the case to a positive and successful closure.”
