Following incidents of theft and vandalism in some offices within the premises of Adamawa State Deputy Governor’s Office, some trained vigilante members have been deployed to assist the police in guarding the office.

Investigation revealed that following the drastic reduction of policemen guarding the premises some months back, incidents of vandalism and theft of electronics particularly plasma TV and Air Conditioners have been in the increase in offices.

Some offices within the premises affected include the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Adamawa NUJ who lost its Plasma TV and decoder, and the Press Crew office that lost its air Conditioner.

Mr Audu Kirya, a Senior Administration Officer said about incidents of vandalism had been recorded in two months.

Similarly, the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Mr George Kushi who spoke on the incidents said the development was disturbing.

“This shows that even top government confidential documents are no longer save if nothing is done to contain the ugly development,” Kushi said.

Reacting to the development, the Chief Security Officer ( CSO) to the Deputy Governor, Mr Usman Daura, said that the deployment of trained vigilante members to complement the few policemen guarding the vast premises of the office was among measures taken to contain the situation.

Daura said that police detectives from Jimeta Division of the metropolis are investigating the incidents of vandalism and theft so far recorded in the office.
