Christian lawyers in Adamawa State have been charged to stand for the less privileged who cannot afford to hire the services of a lawyer.
The Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza gave the charge during a mass for the Catholic Lawyers Association of Nigeria Adamawa State chapter in commemoration of the 2020 legal year held at Saint Theresa cathedral Jimeta.
“Anxiety cannot solve the challenges people are facing in the country, Christians lawyers should always stand for justice and render service to those who do not have money to hire the services of lawyers.
“A lot of cases are delayed in the court and people are in prison without them taken to court, Judges and lawyers should ensure they do not delay any case rather hasten them”””. Mamza averred
The Bishop then commended Catholic lawyers for their support to people and the church and called on them to redouble in that direction.
Speaking on behalf of the Catholic Lawyers Association in the state, Barrister Thomas Eguwuje said the essence of the mass is to commit the legal year into the hands of God, pointing out that “as Christians lawyers, they believe in the power of prayers”.
“It is the tradition to always give thanks to God for the previous years and commit the new legal for God.
“We have been rendering support to indigenes that do not have the means to have a lawyer to defend them irrespective of religion or tribal affiliations”. Eguwuje said.
