ENUGU-– The Enugu North Local Government secretariat opposite old park Enugu felt the rage of hoodlums as they invaded the premises burning at least 4 vehicles and the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, office.

A staff of the Enugu North LG told The West African Pilot that the violent protesters not only burnt the vehicles and the NULGE office building but also vandalized the Local Government hall where they carted away majority of the palliatives stored in the hall.

“The lorry load palliatives stored away at the LG hall awaiting distribution was carted away by these hoodlums while they burnt some,” she said in a telephone interview.

“Also, the hoodlums headed towards the Local Government Chairman’s office with fuel to burn it down but the timely intervention of the Chief Security Officer saved the situation.”

In Enugu East Local Government, WAP was reliably informed that not less than 4 persons lost their lives in Abakpa Nike, a highly populated area in the state.

An eye witness told WAP that when the hoodlums headed to the Abakpa nike police station to burn it down, they were resisted and in the course of the confrontation, 4 persons lost their lives including a police officer.

Mrs Philomena, a federal civil servant recounting the destructions of banks in Liberty junction, Abakpa said that Firstbank of Nigeria Plc, Access bank and UBA all in Abakpa were totally vandalized;

“The ATMs of the banks were destroyed and the walls broken down. Bank papers were strewn all over and trampled on. Wicked men made away with money they found in the banks, carried bank tables and inverters, smashed computers, broke the windows; only the bank strong room is safe,” Philomena said.

“Army offices have since been posted at liberty junction Abakpa to guard the area against another breakdown of law,

“We need to pray for this nation because things have really gone awry with the vandalization and killings in these past days; O God intervene and heal our land,” she prayed.
