The Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party Governors Forum, Aminu Tambuwal, has given the clause that would make Nigeria achieve successful restructuring. He added that although to restructure Nigeria is desirable, but will not succeed without the National Assembly.

The Sokoto State Governor said this during a plenary session of the 26th Nigerian Economic Summit tagged, ‘Building partnership for resilience,’ in Abuja on Monday.

Tambuwal warned that Nigeria must avoid a repeat of the mistake of 2015 when deliberate attempt by the House of Representatives to amend the constitution was rejected at the last minute.

This was contained in a statement by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Public Affairs, Abubakar Shekara.

From the statement, Tambuwal spoke alongside Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Funke Opeke; Chief Executive Officer, MainOne and Chidi Ajaere; CEO, The GIG Group in Abuja.

Tambuwal who was Speaker of the House of Representatives, during the attempt to amend the constitution in 2015, said, “As it were at the moment, whatever you are going to do about the constitution, has been prescribed by the constitution, how you are going to do it.”

The Chairman PDP Governors’ Forum noted that the failure of the constitutional conferences by President Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan were due to the fact that they were not translated into legislation.

He went further that, “So, you cannot go outside of the constitution to amend the constitution, so we better came to terms with this realization and agree to come together and agree on how best we can work together to achieve what the nation desires.”
