MAIDUGURI — More than a hundred insurgents have surrendered to security officials in the past few weeks according to the Nigerian chief of army staff, Faruk Yahaya.
Applauding the effort of the military and other security agencies in the fight to curb insecurity in the country, the chief of army staff said the recent results have been progressive.
Yahaya disclosed this while addressing troops during the flag-off of a special welfare flight programme for personnel of the joint task force of ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ which was held in Maiduguri, Borno state capital, on Monday.
He urged insurgents and all criminal elements to lay down their ammunition and embrace peace, pledging to find and arrest those who will choose to otherwise.
“We are getting them to surrender already and we urge them to continue to surrender and lay down their arms and toe the line of peace.
“The other ones in the bush should also come out and surrender so that we’ll conclude,” he said.
“If they fail, we will get to them. We have gotten some and will get to all who fail to surrender whether in the north-east, north-west, or north-central.”
