Justice Ozoemena was first recommended and sworn in as Acting Chief Judge of the state on the 1st and 7th of September, 2021 respectively following the retirement of Hon. Justice Ngozi Priscilla Emehelu, the past Chief Judge of Enugu State, from the service of the State Judiciary.

Hon. Justice Ozoemena was recommended for the position based on the order of seniority of Judges of Enugu High Court.

Swearing in the Acting Chief Judge on Monday at the Government House Enugu, Governor Ugwuanyi charged Justice Ozoemena to keep up the good work in the Judiciary.

The 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, as amended, section 271 sub-section 4 empowers the Governor of a State to appoint the most senior Judge of the High Court to perform the functions of a Chief Judge of a State if a vacancy occurs in the position until a person has been appointed to and has assumed the functions of that office.
