Irked with the slow pace of work on the construction of the 39.5 klm Maiha- Fulbere- Zhedinyi- Marraba Pella road awarded in 2007 by then administration of Murtala Nyako to A.G Vision Construction Ltd, the Adamawa state government has revoked the contract with immediate effect.

The road when completed will link Nigeria with the Cameroun republic and other communities in Hong and Maiha local government areas of the state.

Though, it directed concerned ministries to note for re-award of the project.

The road project was initially awarded at the sum N2.9 billion to be completed within 24 months and later reviewed upward.

Announcing the revocation to newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, Dr Umar Garba Pella, Commissioner of Information and Strategy said the contract was revoked following the failure of the contracting firm to execute the project within the conditions in the contractual agreement.

Dr Garba Pella explained that the first review of N4.7 billion was in 2009, followed by another review to N6.7 billion in 2011 and N8.8 billion in 2017, stressing that the contractor had collected N5.5 billion before the third variation.

“In all, the contractor has collected N6.4 billion yet the project was not completed, government considered this as irresponsibility on the side of the contractor having defaulted with the duration and pricing.

“When the present administration came on board it mobilized the contractor back to site base on agreement of completing the project in 12 months without any further variation.

“The state government and the contractor had agreed that the remaining payment will be done based on milestone, but the contractor ended with constructing only 9.4 kilometers.

“It is against this that the present administration owed it a duty to have the work completed and therefore directed concerned ministries to note this instruction for re-award of the project by the government soon,” he said.
