In response to the security threat to the 2023 general elections in the country as well as the planned census for next year, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba has announced that officers and men of the police would ensure adequate security of the lives of politicians, election officers and the electorate during the voting proper.
Baba further described the criminal activities of agitators in the South East under the guise of the Indigenous People Of Biafra IPOB as a smoke screen adding that the Police cannot be intimidated.
The Police boss, gave the assurance, on Wednesday during the official commissioning of the new Ultramodern Police Station, located at Amawbia, in Awka South Local Government Area of the state.
According to him, “I understand the security challenges being faced by the people of the South East and especially Anambra state and we  cannot be intimidated by threat of those group in the name of Biafra because they are mere smoke screen.”
“We shall provide level play ground and security for politicians to campaign and for people to perform the civil rights during the election and the enumeration period and guarantee free fair credible election in 2023.
Baba noted that Anambra has purposeful and responsive leadership and I that confidence that the already existing synergy between government and security operatives as well as the local vigilante groups would continue to have far reaching positive effects in crime fighting.
Earlier the Anambra state Police Commissioner CP Echeng Echeng pleaded for more Armoured Personnel Carriers APG as well as other operational vehicles for effective policing in the area.
Echeng further expressed the commendation of the Command to other security sister organizations and the local vigilante groups for the success story in fighting insecurity in Anambra state.
Gov Chukwuma Soludo who was represented by the Special Adviser on Security Rtd Air Vice Marshall Ben Chiobi noted that the state government would not relent in assisting security operatives in battling insecurity in the area.
He expressed happiness that Anambra state is one of the states that benefited from the project out of the one hundred and twenty newly constructed Police Stations in the country.
