Tragedy has struck the Hullere community of Jambutu area in Yola North local government area of Adamawa State, where four kidnapped children were killed by the kidnappers after collecting N500,000 as part of the ransom, while negotiation is ongoing to secure their release.
The father of one of the children, Mallam Samaila Musa, narrated that the children were five in number and left home last Thursday to fetch firewood on a nearby farm, but did not return.
But one of the children, he said came back home leaving the other four behind that were invited by an identified person to assist him in loading a rice.
Musa added that a search party was immediately organized on the fateful day by the communities but their mission was in vain, until the following day on Friday last week when their bodies were discovered and all their eyes plunged out.
“While we are in a mourning mood, the person who invited the children to assist in loading rice brought a phone number that parents of the children should contact to know the fate of their children.
“We then arrested the suspect with assistance of local security personnel and handed him over to the police.
He stated that the child who was in company of the deceased ones identified the suspect as the person who invited the children to assist in loading the rice.
“When then call the number and the kidnappers said the children are in their custody and demanded N10 million as ransom, but “we pleaded that we can offer only N500,000 of which the kidnappers agreed and send a POS account number for the transfer of the said amount,” he said.
He said the amount was paid into the POS operator’s account provided by the kidnappers.
Musa described the situation as pathetic and advised parents to always caution their children against accepting invitations outright.
Meanwhile, the Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Alhaji Adamu Yahaya of Hosere Jambutu, Yola North Local Government Area, in connection with the incident.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Sulaiman Yahaya Nguroje, the arrest followed a complaint by the father of the three children that the kidnappers had contacted the family and demanded ransom as a condition for the release of the victims.
“On June 16th, 2026, one Samaila Musa, m, of Hullere Gwalamba, Yola North LGA, reported at the State Intelligence Department (SID) that on 12th June, 2026, three of his sons, namely: Adamu Samaila Sultan, aged 24 years, Bilal Abdurrahman, aged 8 years, and Ya’u Sani Baba Iyali, aged 10 years, were kidnapped and whisked away to an unknown destination.
“Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, immediately directed operatives of the Command to commence a discreet investigation and deploy intelligence and technical assets.
“The suspect is currently providing useful information that will assist in the arrest of other members of the kidnapping syndicate,” the statement reads.
Nguroje said the suspect will be charged in court upon conclusion of the investigation.
