Gaddafi Sagir, a 20-year-old man in Kano allegedly stabbed his pregnant stepmother, Rabi’atu Sagir, and strangulated her eight-year-old daughter, Munawwara Sagir, killing both.

Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Police Public Relations Officer, Kano State Command, disclosed this while arraigning the suspect before the press in Kano.

Kano State Police Command said the suspect confessed during interrogation, to having singlehandedly used a screwdriver to stab his stepmother on her neck and forehead, and strangled her daughter with her head tie until she was no longer breathing.

Kiyawa, Superintendent of Police, said the killing was lodged by the suspect’s father, Sagir Yakubu, a resident of Fadama Rijiyar Zaki Quarters, Ungogo LGA, Kano State, on January 7, 2023, at about 11:30 pm.

He said the suspect confessed during interrogation, to having singlehandedly used a screwdriver to stab his stepmother on her neck and forehead, and strangled her daughter with her head tie until she was no longer breathing.

“The father told the police that he returned home and met his 25-year-old pregnant wife, and her daughter, lying motionless in a pool of blood.”

“He also notified the police of his suspicion that his son, Gaddafi, carried out the criminal act.”

“The alleged killer was arrested on Sunday, January 8, said that the report prompted the State Commissioner of Police, Mamman Dauda, to direct a team of detectives, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Rijiyar Zaki Division, CSP Usman Abdullahi, to the scene, rush the victims to the hospital and ensure the arrest of whoever committed the act.

“The team immediately went to the scene, cordoned the area, and rushed the victims to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where a medical doctor certified them dead.

“The suspect, Gaddafi Sagir, 20 years old, was arrested in an uncompleted building in an attempt to escape from Kano,” Kiyawa said.
